The joy of writing a story once you've had a bit more life experience is that you can draw from the people you know and how they've acted throughout the years. I like writing Tom and Connie because they're both not really villains in the traditional sense, but more like the kind of villains you meet in real life. They're the kind of people that sort of swoop into your normal life and fuck it up completely and don't mind leaving you with the rubble. But from the perspective of Tom or Connie, they were doing what they had to do and everything is justified. The people who love and care about them will put up with the emotional rollercoaster because it seems to be temporary and the end goals seem reasonable within the vacuum of this person. Meanwhile, everyone on the outside looking in thinks anyone who's rational wouldn't put up with all of it.

So my goal with this story was to make villains that you hate so viscerally because they're frustrating more than they are evil lol. I think it's just more interesting that way. Connie was definitely evil, don't get me wrong, but her motivations make her frustrating.

Anyway, thanks to everyone who came by to see me at the Barrington library on Saturday! I've been trying to schedule more events throughout the year, so we'll see what pans out in 2024 :)
